Abstract

This thesis explores the legal framework governing the protection of intellectual property in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. The primary objective of this study is to develop a concrete proposal for an adequate and effective legal protection system for AI systems, specifically Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Through an analysis of the legal framework pertaining to software protection within Italy's jurisdiction, the thesis identifies gaps and limitations in the current state of IP rights in AI systems. Based on this analysis, a carefully justified and explained proposal is presented to address the legal challenges associated with IP protection for ANNs. Additionally, the study extends its considerations to the legal frameworks governing AI in different jurisdictions to gauge the potential applicability and scope of this proposal.
