Abstract
This study intends to give a deeper look into the physical characteristics and behaviour of the propellant for a composite propellant and to analyse methods to simulate the casting procedure of a simple geometry engine. The analysis will be performed on the open-source software OpenFoam, adopting a VOF (Volume Of Fluid) method. The results of this analysis could pave the way for implementing more detailed models that will allow for better-predicting rocket engines' performance based on solid propellant, both for space missions and other purposes. Being able to perform better predictions over the solid rocket engine performances would lead to a decrease in costs to perform tests to acquire experimental data and decrease the possibility of catastrophic failure during missions.
