Abstract

Phospholipids play a crucial role in cell membrane structure and metabolic processes. Their characterization in biomass matrices is essential for understanding lipid composition and potential applications in nutrition and biotechnology, as well as in the whole food sector. The aim of the experimental work presented in this thesis is to develop a robust analytical workflow for the identification and quantification of phospholipid species in complex biomass samples. Biomass samples were analyzed using a combination of targeted and untargeted LC-MS/MS & UPLC-HRMS. Samples preparation included optimized extraction and concentration steps to enable detection of low-abundance phospholipids. The targeted approach allowed quantification of known species, while untargeted analysis enabled comprehensive overall profiling.
