Abstract
This thesis explores the Ukrainian migratory experience in Poland before 2022 by
analysing the anthology Tu już nie jest się takim jak wszyscy. 1° i 101° dzień Ukraińców w
Polsce, edited by Ryszard Kupidura. The study combines a sociopolitical analysis of the
migration context with the practical work of literary translation.
The research adopts a multidisciplinary approach, bridging the study of Polish migration
policies with translational analysis. A key part of the research material was gathered through a
structured interview with the book's editor, aimed at reconstructing the project's origins as a
"snapshot" of pre-war reality.
By translating three selected short stories (by Rudak, Antoščuk, and Artjuščenko), the
study identifies the main challenges in translating from Polish and Ukrainian into Italian,
specifically regarding cultural realia, diminutives, and regionalisms. The analysis highlights a
time gap between when the stories were written (pre-2022) and how they are read today, turning
what were originally everyday narratives into historical and testimonial documents. Ultimately,
this work shows how literary translation serves as a vital tool for understanding the identity
shifts of a migrant population in transition.
