Abstract

The present dissertation explores children's literature and translation from a gender perspective, focusing on the role of picture books as educational, social and cultural tools capable of shaping representations of identity, emotions and diversity from an early age. Starting from an overview of the origins and multiple definitions of children's literature, the study highlights its pedagogical potential and its responsibility in either reinforcing or challenging gender stereotypes. In addition, particular attention is given to translation as an interpretative and interventionist space, in which translators actively contribute to the construction and transmission of values. The theoretical discussion is followed by a case study of the bilingual picturebook Cebollino y Pimentón by Laura Reixach, which serves as a concrete example of inclusive storytelling within contemporary children's literature. On the basis of this analysis, the dissertation proposes a possible translation of the English version of the picturebook, with the aim of adhering to principles of gender-aware and inclusive translation that promote respect for differences and positive representations.
