Abstract
This thesis, developed within the Language Toolkit project, examines the translation of the Masterwood S.p.A. website, an Italian company specialising in CNC machining centres. The work focuses on the Italian-to-French translation with the aim of shaping a coherent and recognisable corporate voice suited to the communicative conventions of the French-speaking B2B market.
The dissertation is organised into five chapters. The first introduces the project and the company, outlining the objectives and specific constraints of the translation assignment. The second chapter establishes the theoretical framework, discussing specialised languages, the features of technical-promotional discourse, and the principles of terminology management. The third chapter applies Christiane Nord’s functionalist model to the pre-translation analysis, clarifying the intended purpose, target audience and textual conventions of the source material. The fourth chapter presents the digital tools adopted and describes the full post-editing workflow implemented during the project. The final chapter analyses selected translation problems and solutions, illustrating how the neural output was reshaped through terminological, stylistic and structural interventions.
The study shows that technical-promotional translation requires a constant balance between terminological precision, textual clarity and stylistic coherence. While neural machine translation provides a useful starting point, a full post-editing approach is necessary to adapt tone, emphasis, and textual organisation to the norms of specialised French. Overall, the dissertation demonstrates that integrating functional analysis, digital tools and specialised translation expertise is crucial for producing effective international communication and for strengthening both the corporate voice and the competitiveness of SMEs on foreign markets.
