Abstract

The urgent requirement to counteract climate change has brought about carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a necessary technology for lowering industrial emissions of carbon dioxide (CO₂). Depleted gas reservoirs are among the proposed alternatives for long-term storage of CO₂, but they are susceptible to detrimental effects caused by the nucleation and growth of CO₂ hydrates under low-temperature and high-pressure conditions. The formation of hydrates in porous media results in injectivity loss and introduces potential operational hazards. It examines the process of hydrate formation in geologic systems and studies the possibility of kinetic inhibition in different experimental conditions for the prevention of such issues.
