Abstract

Intersection of architecture, sound, and social inclusion through the experimental reconstruction of Piazzale San Francesco in Parma. The project includes detailed architectural surveys and precise acoustic measurements, aiming to create an accurate reconstruction that blends sound and architecture. This reconstruction takes shape in an immersive video that shows the square as an inclusive urban soundscape, where architecture and sound come together to offer new ways to experience and feel the city. Developed as part of the AGORA project, an innovative research initiative focused on using 3D immersive audio to promote cultural and social inclusion, this work explores how Italian public squares can be reimagined through spatial design and acoustic identity. The project aims to make the experience of public spaces accessible even to those who can’t physically be there, such as people with disabilities or in vulnerable situations, offering an inclusive and multisensory experience. By combining architectural surveys, acoustic measurements, and immersive media, the project puts sound at the heart of public space design, turning it into a tool for empathy, inclusion, and cultural preservation. This approach opens new possibilities for understanding and protecting intangible heritage and offers a replicable model for inclusive urban regeneration.
