Abstract
This thesis begins by providing a brief historical overview of the emergence of localization, tracing its evolution from a supplementary task in software development to a multi-billion-dollar professional industry. It then defines localization, discusses its significance in a globalized world, and examines the key challenges it presents. The study proceeds to explore the relationship between localization and the interconnected phases of the GILT framework – Globalization, Internationalization, and Translation. Subsequently, it analyses the influence of cultural theories and models on localization research. The thesis concludes with a discussion of future directions in the field, including emerging trends such as crowdsourcing and green localization.
