Abstract

The context of a master’s thesis focused on urban regeneration and adaptive reuse fits within a framework of increasing urbanization and the need for environmental sustainability. Modern cities face significant challenges, including the management of urban voids, the need for adequate infrastructure, and social inclusion. Adaptive reuse is proposed as an integrated response to these issues, aiming to transform degraded or underutilized areas into socially and environmentally livable spaces. In Italy, adaptive reuse is seen as an effective solution to counter the decline of numerous urban areas, especially those in the periphery. These areas often suffer from building abandonment, lack of adequate infrastructure, and economic isolation, further widening the gap among social classes. The objectives that this thesis aims to address through a reworking of my projects are: urban context analysis, strategic planning, community involvement, enhancement of existing heritage. In summary, this thesis aims to thoroughly address the current urban context and outline how the urban fabric of a city could be regenerated, promoting an approach that actively involves the community and enhances existing architectural heritage.
