Proposta di sottotitolaggio del film Manos sucias

This master's thesis in Interpreting explores the complex process of subtitling in Italian the colombian movie Manos sucias (2014) by Josef Kubota Wladyka, a work that presents significant linguistic and socio-cultural varieties typical of the Colombian Pacific. Initially, it is analysed the historical, socio-economic and linguistic context of the film, and then the challenges of audiovisual translation are addressed, with a particular focus on the management of diatopic varieties of Colombian Castilian and the adoption of strategies to deal with specific cultural references. The work is subdivided into four chapters: the first introduces the film and the context of its production; the second examines the linguistic varieties of Colombian Spanish, with a particular focus on the variant spoken in the Pacific; the third delves into the technical and regulatory aspects of subtitling; finally, the fourth describes the methodology used, the problems encountered and the solutions adopted during the subtitling process. Through an approach combining translation theory and practical application, this research offers a contribution to the understanding of the peculiarities of subtitling, emphasising the importance of finding a balance between fidelity to the original text and cultural adaptation in order to guarantee effective enjoyment for Italian audiences.
