Abstract
This dissertation investigates the application of transport modeling tools to address traffic-flow related issues in urban environments, focusing on a specific intersection in Ans, Belgium. The studied case employs PTV VISSIM software to analyze traffic behavior and develop practical scenarios to address the prevailing problem. A comprehensive literature review is presented, covering the fundamental principles, importance, and various techniques in transport modeling.
The dissertation again demonstrates the practical application of simulation models and highlights their potential to offer theoretical solutions to transportation problems. Four scenarios were modeled and compared: the base scenario, roundabout, actuated signalized
intersection, and channelized intersection. The aim is to demonstrate how transport modeling could be an important aspect to consider when formulating policies to promote an efficient
transportation system, emphasizing the importance of combining various disciplines to effectively address the challenges posed by rapid urbanization and develop efficient solutions for urban transportation systems.
