Abstract
This dissertation aims to present an overview of the translation of Italian idiomatic expressions into English. It begins by examining translation theories from esteemed linguists such as Eugene Nida and Lawrance Venuti. Following this, it will then analyze the history and the meaning of some of the most common Italian idioms. The thesis will conclude with a case study analyzing the idiomatic expressions from the Italian TV show ‘Baby’ in English. Through this approach, the dissertation aims to highlight the complexities and strategies involved in effectively translating idiomatic expressions.
