Abstract

Composite materials exhibit remarkable attributes, including being lightweight, a high strength-to-weight ratio, and mechanical characteristics that position them as superior alternatives to metals in diverse structural applications. However, laminated composites suffer from inherent weaknesses, particularly low delamination resistance resulting in the detachment of adjacent laminae and subsequent mechanical failures. This thesis focuses on integrating electrospun membranes with self-healing capabilities into CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) laminates. The optimal conditions for composite curing are thoroughly investigated through thermal analysis (DSC). Subsequently, samples undergo testing to evaluate interlaminar fracture toughness in both Mode I and Mode II.
