Abstract
The performance of a solar challenge car is strongly influenced by it's energy efficiency. About 70\% of the avaiable energy is spent to overcome running resistance, mainly given by aerodynamic drag. Therefore, to be able to optimize performance, drag must be reduced. The present work gives an overview of the main aerodynamic factors at the design basis of a solar race car competing in the World Solar Challenge, with particular attention to the Emilia III model and the winning designs of the 2011 and 2013.
Abstract
