Abstract

In recent years, the integration of emerging technologies into educational paradigms has gained substantial attention, fostering innovative and immersive learning experiences. One such technological advancement that holds immense promise is WebXR - a web-based extension of Extended Reality (XR) including Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). This thesis work delves into the potential of the WebXR platform as a powerful tool for enhancing educational content delivery, engagement, and accessibility. In various papers, it is explained how virtual didactic can help in teaching and also in student learning, as the visualization of 3D objects may simplify the study of certain topics. Thanks in part to the use of the ATON framework, which provides a solid foundation for creating multi-user platforms, it was possible to implement a platform that can help in an educational environment. Most applications created using the ATON framework refer to architectural work or otherwise to show the various steps in the reconstruction of museums or historic buildings. In the project being described in this thesis we see the ATON framework in a new guise, including through the many tools added or modified to make the experience closer to the use case being considered. Among the various existing teaching platforms, the one described here has several tools that are not present in other platforms, or at least limited to individual devices, such as handwritten annotations, written or spoken annotations attached to a specific 3D object, download of the annotation of an object, synchronization of the scene to all users within the room, the manipulation of 3D object inside the scene and many others. The three-mesh-ui library is used to create the spatial user interface that helps to navigate and interact with the platform. This library made it possible to create a simple interface thanks to its two classes Label and Button, which were modified to make better use of them.
