Abstract
This work focuses on studying the 2D wake pattern behind a bluff body/airfoil immersed in a fluid. Within a specific Reynolds number range, a repeating pattern of swirling vortices shows up: the "Von Karman Vortex Street". To suppress Vortex-Induced Vibration which can cause the structure resonating, a suitable control method has to be adopted. Furthermore, this work
aims at designing a control technique for a flapping airfoil able to produce the desired "Reverse Von Karman Vortex Street": a thrust-generating wake created by the birds flapping wings.
