Abstract
This dissertation comes within the framework of the Language Toolkit project, launched in 2013 thanks to the cooperation between the Romagna Chamber of Commerce and the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Interpreting and Translation in Forlì. In particular, this dissertation is intended to present and discuss the localization project from Italian into French of the website of Ericsoft.
Chapter 1 introduces the Language Toolkit project, the company and the localization project; furthermore, it presents the internationalization process in which many companies get involved in order to enter new markets. Chapter 2 deals with web communication, focusing on search engines, websites, SEO strategies and the principles of usability, readability and accessibility. In this regard, the localization process is closely related to web communication and it is the central issue of chapter 4, which presents its phases, its actors and the translation tools used when localizing, with particular emphasis on web localization.
The practical part of this work consists of two different chapters. On the one hand, chapter 5 deals with the analysis of both the Ericsoft website (structure, usability, readability, SEO strategies, etc.) and the source texts (according to the looping model explained by Christiane Nord). On the other hand, chapter 6 describes the translation tools and terminological resources used during the localization project (SDL Trados Studio, monolingual and bilingual corpora and the termbase). Furthermore, in this final chapter the strategies adopted in the translation of the source texts are discussed, in order to present the difficulties encountered during the process and how they have been overcome.
