Abstract
This dissertation focuses on my first-hand experience as Italian assistant at Eton College and aims to provide a structured analysis of the language teaching approaches adopted, the learning activities proposed and the challenges and difficulties with which adolescent English speakers are faced while learning Italian as a foreign language.
The first chapter offers a brief introduction to Eton College in order to better understand the environment in which the learning / teaching took place. In the second chapter the teaching approaches adopted by Eton College and by the Italian Department are discussed in greater detail. It follows a description of the theoretical study I carried out accordingly before arriving at Eton College to comply with the teaching principles and objectives of the Department. The third chapter focuses on the lessons that I conducted. There is a description of the activities carried out, the objectives reached and the language acquisition studies to support the choices I made. In the fourth chapter the most common mistakes made during the oral exam are analysed, classified and explained according to the Sequence of Acquisition Theory and the Descriptive Error Taxonomy.
