Ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas have received considerable attention in recent years due to their wide frequency range and suitability for high-speed data communication, sensing, and radar applications. This review thesis provides an overview of the key design, characterization, and future directions for UWB antennas. It also discusses various design techniques such as metamaterials, and reconfigurable antennas to achieve better performance over a wide frequency range. UWB transmission, ranging and positioning techniques are also addressed in detail throughout the thesis. Finally, we highlight some of the challenges and future directions for UWB antennas, including the integration of UWB antennas into compact and efficient devices, the development of new antenna designs and materials, and the exploration of new applications of UWB antennas. Overall, this thesis provides a comprehensive overview of UWB antenna technology, its current status, and its potential for future advancements.
