Abstract

This thesis aims to describe the importance of rap music and the effect of its lyrics on society. It begins with an historical overview of some of the most relevant events that marked the development of this genre both in the United States and in Italy. Then, it will analyze the writing techniques and use of the language of only a few of the most influential American and Italian rappers, using their most valid and famous songs as examples. Following this, it will focus on a detailed analysis of the slang in both countries, with a dissertation on AAVE and appropriation.
