Abstract

This study delves into the integration of smart technology into road infrastructure amidst increasing demands due to population growth and urbanization. It investigates the potential of smart roads—equipped with sensors, intelligent traffic systems, and connectivity features—to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability in transportation. The thesis is divided into two main sections: the first explores the concept and technology behind smart roads and their role in addressing safety concerns and environmental sustainability; the second focuses on design principles aimed at mitigating safety risks and ensuring data protection. Through examining the current technological advancements and design strategies, the research seeks to offer insights into overcoming the challenges faced by traditional road systems and the implementation of smart road solutions. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of smart roads' safety implications and the design solutions that can address these issues, contributing to the advancement of transportation systems.
