La traduzione per l'internazionalizzazione d'impresa: il caso di localizzazione dell'e-commerce di Bandini Pharma S.r.l.

This thesis is carried out as part of the Language Toolkit project – a joint initiative of the Department of Interpretation and Translation of Forlì (University of Bologna) and the Chamber of Commerce of Romagna. The project aims at promoting and supporting the internationalization of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing them with high-level language services while introducing near-graduate students to a professional context. In this particular instance, the student collaborated with Eudinamis S.r.l., a company based in Santarcangelo di Romagna that specialises in the manufacturing of food supplements on behalf of third parties. The task assigned to the trainee entailed translating part of the Bandini Pharma website from Italian into British English. This dissertation consists of four chapters. The first one presents a detailed overview of the Language Toolkit project (including the companies involved and the translation job) and delves into the internationalization process of SMEs. The second chapter attempts to identify the genre and text type of the Bandini Pharma website and also provides fundamental notions on the localization process as well as writing and translating for the web. The third chapter is aimed at presenting the preparatory tasks undertaken before starting the translation, namely the in-depth analysis of the source text, the rewriting process of the source text, and the main resources and tools employed in this translation job. The fourth chapter deals with the translation commentary, investigating the strategies implemented to solve the translation problems detected in the source text.
