Abstract

This thesis navigates the landscape of Open Porous Media (OPM) by intricately detailing its installation in the Ubuntu environment. The thesis is divided into 3 sections. Section one serves as a comprehensive guide, emphasizing compatibility nuances and adhering to best practices, establishing a robust foundation for ensuing reproducibility efforts to perform numerical modeling activities using simulation software. The second section elevates the research by subjecting the OPM installation to verification through a real-world case study. Specifically, it dissects a small gas-injection black-oil scenario, featuring the intricate dissolved gas (live oil) aspect. This case study, involving two wells, undergoes meticulous cross-validation with the OPM Flow simulator. Beyond guaranteeing the precision of the OPM setup, this verification step substantiates the platform's reliability in replicating complex reservoir simulations. Section three advances the testing of OPM with a further case study, discussing the input codes, simulation results, and also the interpretation of the results and delving into the post-simulation activities. Here, ResInsight, a potent post-simulation tool within the OPM framework, takes center stage. This chapter unpacks the capabilities of ResInsight, offering a deep dive into visualizing to help the interpretation of the simulation results. It sheds light on reservoir behavior and performance post-simulation, ushering in a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic porous media flows. Leveraging principles of reproducibility throughout, including meticulous documentation, version control, and the integration of open-source tools, this research doesn't merely stop at offering insights into OPM's installation and verification; it extends an invitation for broader adoption and collaboration in the reservoir simulations field.
