Abstract
This thesis project focuses on the study of a new synthesis method of chiral poly(3-alkyl)thiophenes starting from an achiral monomer. The main characteristic of this approach is the use of an external initiator which consists of a bulky chiral end group to ensure the chirality of all polymer chains. Both the monomer and two different types of chiral external initiators are synthesized following several reactions steps. Each product is characterized with the use of 1H NMR spectroscopy in order to confirm their chemical structure. Finally, two Suzuki-Miyaura polymerizations are performed and monitored with GPC analysis. The two polymers are analyzed with 1H NMR spectroscopy as well.
