Abstract

An important turning point in human history was reached with industrialization, which ushered in a period of technological breakthroughs, the expansion of cities, and the broad adoption of mechanical procedures. In order to adjust to new technologies and production techniques, factories and manufacturing facilities were widely established, which coincided with the evolution of architectural styles. As a result, industrial architecture may be seen as a unique mode of expression that highlights the aesthetic value of functionality and the complex relationship between structure and function. However, a significant number of these sites have seen a reduction in attention and upkeep as a result of shifting economic dynamics and changes in industrial landscapes. The goal is to look at creative ways to renovate old buildings so they can serve modern purposes without losing their historical or technological authenticity. The notion of adaptive reuse presents itself as a potentially advantageous strategy, providing the opportunity to transform industrial heritage buildings into thriving centers of commerce, social interaction, and artistic expression while preserving their inherent value. This thesis' primary goal is to investigate various adaptive reuse tactics in the context of industrial history preservation. The goal of this research is to identify ideal approaches and guiding concepts for carefully and sustainably influencing the change of settings. Examining successful Italian cases and evaluating case studies helped achieve this. Additionally, this study will examine the advantages of these activities for the environment, clarify how purposefully preserving industrial history can enhance urban environments, promote sustainability, and expand our knowledge of historical connections
