"Walking the Jurassic Coast" di Ronald Turnbull: una proposta di traduzione

The subject of this dissertation is the translation from English into Italian of the selected excerpts from Ronald Turbull's "Walking the Jurassic Coast: the Walks, the Rocks, the Fossils guidebook". We will begin with the analysis of the guidebook as a genre with a keen eye on the functional and textual features to be kept in mind for translation purposes. In particular, we will focus on its promotional function, its evocative function, its leading function and its dialogic function. We will continue with a brief introduction about the author and the region covered by the book. At the core of the thesis there will be the translation of the selected passages. We will begin with the translation of a very evocative introductory part of the region, to continue with a more technical part about its geological features, a trail and a glossary of geological terms proposed by the author. We will conclude the thesis with a commentary on the translation, focusing on the main challenges and the strategies adopted to solve them, and an editorial proposal.
