Abstract
Rubble stone masonry is still being used to this day, mainly in developing countries. Mortar is a key component in masonry constructions.
There are many mortar types, cement mortar is preferred rather than lime mortar, however due to the economical conditions it might not be always reachable, and it is sometimes contaminated with clay content in locally sourced sand.
This thesis presents the results of some experimental tests aimed at assessing the effect of clay contamination as well as mix design in both compressive strength and young’s modulus.
