Abstract

Wind energy holds significant importance for a variety of reasons, ranging from environmental benefits to economic and energy security advantages. Offshore wind farms offer several advantages over their onshore counterparts, making them an attractive option for harnessing wind energy in many regions. In this study we will have an general overview about the offshore wind energy, its current state and its advantages and disadvantages. Different numerical methods and softwares which are being used for modeling of offshore wind farms have been introduced in this study. Then, with a brief introduction for WindSim software, which is selected for our modeling, we tried to model a real wind farm (ROMAGNA 1 & 2 projects from AGNES Company). With using measured wind data of the area and the composition of wind turbines and information about desired wind turbines characteristics which were provided by the AGNES company, we modeled the wind farm. A code in MATLAB has been written to take our measured wind data and analyze them. Moreover, by numerical modeling in WindSim and numerical calculations, we presented a model for our farm as well as the Wind mean speed and power density distribution. Finally, by using wake loss model, Annual Energy production (AEP) of the farm with respect to losses is reported.
