Abstract
In the contemporary business environment, where standardization and cost reduction are prevalent, Baker Hughes stands out by providing tailored solutions to meet unique customer demands. The topic discussed in this paper is based on an internship conducted at Baker Hughes’ String Test Cell.
The main problem, driven by an increase in demand and production volumes, identified during the internship was the need to enhance the quotation processes of a string test, which is a specialized testing procedure crucial in the Oil and Gas sector to ensure that the equipment can perform under commissioning conditions.
The methodology employed is the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act), through which it was possible to analyze the current state and provide a solution. The assessment of the as is state was operated through the use of a value stream map, while the to be state was described using a swim lane map.
In order to implement the countermeasures identified and to optimize the information flow, a Lean 6S approach was adopted.
The implementation led to a more streamlined and effective process, characterized by standardized procedures and the creation of a workflow. It was possible to promote an on-time delivery policy reaching zero delays and halving the average duration of the submission process.
Users' feedback and usability testing played a crucial role in identifying and addressing issues, ultimately leading to a highly satisfactory solution set to be deployed in the near future.
