Abstract

This thesis addresses the increasing constraints on water resources in Emilia Romagna by proposing an innovative approach to water distribution for openchannel irrigation networks. The research extends the capabilities of the Smart Water Management Platform (SWAMP) project, integrating rainfall parameters and adjusting variable water availability. The study leverages the numerical resolution of IBM-Ilog Cplex within a MATLAB framework, incorporating considerations such as flow routing processes, physical infrastructure, and the gatekeeper’s schedule to optimize water distribution. The investigation underscores the utility of an IoT-based approach, like the SWAMP project, for smart water management in precision irrigation. It proposes the integration of climatic factors, particularly rainfall, to improve the existing framework. This work could pave the way for sustainable, efficient water management, potentially mitigating water crises and promoting agricultural productivity.
