Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the behavior of cyclists and their relationship with the infrastructure using a bicycle simulator and video recordings of pupil core headset frame by frame in pupil player. The simulation results can be used to complement real-world observations in designing and planning bicycle-friendly infrastructure. The bicycle simulator was designed by using Simulink-MATLAB which aims to reproduce the dynamics of a bike both in simulation and in a real environment. The results revealed that most participants (68.4%) reported no nausea, 42.1% reported slight nausea, and a minority reported moderate (5.3%) or severe (10.5%) nausea. The majority of participants (57.9%) reported experiencing "none" or no headache while using the bicycle simulator, while a smaller minority experienced slight to moderate levels of eyestrain. Overall, most participants did not experience any significant headache, headache, or eyestrain while using this simulator. Moreover, the majority (58.3%) of participants reported having no nausea and nausea. In conclusion, our study provides insights into cyclists' behavior in relation to infrastructure design and can inform future efforts to improve cycling safety. Our study highlights the importance of personalized interventions and education programs that consider individual differences in cycling behavior.
