Abstract

This paper presents the current status of renewable energy in the EU, providing an analysis of the events of the last three years, their effects on the development of renewable energy, and the policies adopted to address these effects. It begins by describing the impacts of the Covid pandemic on the supply chain of raw materials and renewable energy production, which was influenced by the restrictions imposed by various countries. Subsequently, it examines the impact of the ongoing war in Russia on incentives to increase renewable energy production, due to sanctions imposed on natural gas imports. Finally, the current state of renewable energy in Europe and individual EU countries is presented, analysing renewable power installations, the share of renewable energy in production and total energy consumption. In the conclusions, the article highlights the significant differences between EU countries in renewable energy development, with some countries still lagging far behind others. It also emphasizes the need to increase funding to achieve the goals set by the latest renewable energy directive, the REPowerEU plan.
