Abstract

This thesis aims to study the potential of the real-time kinematics (RTK) technique for improving the accuracy of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning in real time for railways. RTK has gained significant popularity in recent years as a possibility for railway applications due to its accuracy, reliability, and real-time capabilities, which are superior to those of traditional positioning systems. RTK is extremely useful for railway applications, and in this thesis, some measurements along the railway line between Modena and Formigine were collected through a GNSS receiver implementing RTK to verify the accuracy under different channel conditions.
