Abstract

An issue that has always been very important in the design and implementation of a structure is cost containment, over which for the most part we have no direct control and therefore the possibilities for implementation are limited. Among the many existing technologies, the one that is becoming more established in both academic and practical heads and that we will cover in this thesis is the Building Information Model or also simply called BIM, we will address this topic through the presentation of a case study, using software such as Revit and Synchro 4D. The use of Revit and Synchro 4D to optimize construction processes allows for increased efficiency, quality and safety of construction. The Building Information Model provides a digital representation of the project that enables more efficient planning and management. Synchro 4D is a software for the simulation of the 4 dimensions, i.e., that of time and the 5th dimension, i.e., that of cost; this type of simulations is indispensable for proper control with respect to these two resources, all the more so if delays should occur on the works, due to unforeseen events or design changes during construction and thus an impact on costs and time. In addition, these technologies allow for early detection and resolution of problems, reduction of waste, and improved communication between different stakeholders. The objective of this thesis will be to describe the process of optimizing the design of a facility with the listed methodology, proposing a project designed and designed with the traditional methodology, analyzing the benefits and possible criticalities of this new workflow.
