Abstract

In 2014, a landslide occurred in the San Leo area in the north of Italy, causing a wide range of damage to this region. Because of the importance of this area, in this thesis numerical analysis has been done using Plaxis software. This numerical analysis has been carried out as a parametric analysis, which can be used to understand the effect of parameters such as cohesion, friction angle, and tensile strength on rock behavior. Also, in this thesis, the effect of the mesh has been analyzed. The purpose of performing this analysis in different conditions is to be able to create a numerical model that can be used to predict an event before it happens. The rock slab in this area is surrounded by two watersheds, which has increased erosion in San Leo. In fact, these catchments are a predisposing factor and driver of instability in this region. This research includes three initial phases of excavation and three phases of erosion. Over the years, this erosion has led to the destruction of the rock slab and finally landslides. In addition, the erosion is done step by step and its effect on the rock has been investigated in each phase.
