Verso l’equilibrio di genere nel private equity e venture capital: traduzione dall’inglese all’italiano di un report della Società finanziaria internazionale (IFC)

The aim of this dissertation is to provide a translation from English to Italian of selected chapters of a report published by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in March 2019. The key objective of this report is to explore gender gaps in private equity and venture capital, focusing especially on the link between financial returns and gender diversity, the lack of women in the industry and the steps needed to achieve gender balance. This dissertation is comprised of six chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of the IFC and a description of the main topics addressed by the report, such as the hurdles women face within the labor market and the role of gender diversity as one of the main drivers of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development. The second chapter explores the lexical, syntactical and textual features of specialized languages, as well as the main aspects of the language of economics. The third chapter focuses on the identification and the description of the textual genre and provides a detailed source text analysis. The fourth chapter offers an overview of corpus linguistics and its application in translation, as well as the description of the ad hoc corpora created for this specific translation project. The fifth chapter contains the source text, followed by its translation in Italian. Lastly, the sixth chapter describes the methodology and the resources used in the translation process and presents a commentary on the main translation difficulties and strategies.
