La serie web Skam: analisi dell’adattamento nei tre paesi scelti, Italia, Francia e Stati Uniti

This final dissertation aims at exploring the notion of adaptation through the analysis of the Norwegian web series Skam and three of its adaptations. The show has been acclaimed worldwide for its real and raw representation of adolescence, combining new broadcasting methods to a young and hip language. Since 2018, it has been adapted in numerous countries and this dissertation will focus on Skam Italia, Skam France and Skam Austin. As for the structure of the paper, the first chapter explores the notion of adaptation, what it means to adapt and the main challenges of this process. The second chapter introduces Skam, providing a summary of its four seasons. Furthermore, the chapter goes into details about the distribution of the show and the level of audience engagement. After introducing Skam Italia, Skam France and Skam Austin, the third chapter focuses on the implied changes that derive from the transposition of a product into a different culture. Significant elements are pinpointed and discussed into greater detail. The fourth and final chapter delves into the kind of language that has been used in the three versions, providing examples of the language of the younger generations in the different countries where the adaptation is set.
