Tradurre l'anti-comicità di Andy Kaufman: analisi dell'adattamento italiano del film "Man on the Moon".

This work analyses the Italian adaptation of the movie "Man on the Moon" by Miloš Forman, which premiered in 1999. The film is a biography of the extravagant American comedian Andy Kaufman, who became famous in the 1970s and died of lung cancer in 1984, at the age of 35. The work consists of five chapters. The first chapter contains Andy Kaufman’s biography, a description of his main characters, Miloš Forman’s life and the presentation of the film, "Man on the Moon", including its synopsis and some curious facts. The second chapter surveys the history of stand-up comedy in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s, with a brief presentation of the main figures of this era, including Andy Kaufman himself and his “anti-humour”. The third chapter offers an overview of dubbing, humour, humour translation and humour in audiovisual translation, focusing mainly on dubbed humour. The last chapter contains the description of a one-day-experience in a dubbing studio in Rome, followed by the analysis of the Italian adaptation of "Man on the Moon". The analysis focuses mainly on how the Italian dialogue adapter and the dubbing team found a way to mediate between a linguistically and culturally effective Italian translation of the English dialogues and the effect that a line or a dialogue should have on the target language audience, given the (anti-) humorous content of the film.
