Gestione della qualità e internazionalizzazione delle imprese: un’esperienza di traduzione presso l’azienda Olitalia

This dissertation reports on practical experience and research carried out as part of the Language Toolkit project, which consists in collaboration between the Department of Interpretation and Translation (DIT) of the University of Bologna at Forlì and the Chamber of Commerce of Forlì-Cesena. The purpose of the project is to allow students to become acquainted with the world of work; they provide concrete support in the process of internationalization of companies, through the offer of linguistic assistance. In this case a translation task was carried out for Olitalia, a company based in Forlì that produces olive oil. The first part of the dissertation is dedicated to the description of the internationalization process of firms, followed by an overview of the food industry in Italy and in Europe, to explore the productive sector in which Olitalia operates. The second part concerns the analysis of corporate communication, whereas in the third section the translation task - that consists in the translation from Italian into English of a procedure and a work instruction - is outlined. The typical features of specialized communication are then described, a classification of specialized texts is proposed. Finally the last section focuses on the translation industry and on the translation workflow followed to carry out the translation task; the description is accompanied by a commentary detailing both the translation choices and the revision process.
