L'animazione in Russia: nascita e rinascita. Proposta di traduzione di tre episodi della serie "Krokodil Gena"

The aim of this dissertation is to provide an overview of the Russian art of animation, a topic scarsely investigated in Italy and mostly unknown to the common Italian audience up to this day, while presenting a translation into Italian of an animated series from the Soviet era. The series chosen to be translated is based on Krokodil Gena i ego druzya, a children book written by Eduard Uspensky. Director Roman Kachanov, art director Leonid Shvartsman and composer Vladimir Shainsky contributed to the creation of the animated series, which gained incredible success in the Soviet Union and in current Russian Federation. The first chapter covers the beginning, the development, the culmination, and the status of the art of animation in Russia, from 1912 to this day. The second chapter identifies the idea behind the creation of the animated series that I have chosen to translate, the raise in popularity, and the main themes that subtend the episodes. The third chapter deals with audiovisual translation and most common strategies available for the adaptation of an audiovisual product. The last chapter analyses the steps of the translation process while examining the features of the selected audiences and the obstacles that had to be overcome during the translation, especially when adapting songs.
